December 3rd City Council Meeting and Zoning Ordinance Workshop
Items include a review of the zoning ordinance, possible updates to the short-term rental ordinance, and tax concessions as economic development. 👏
Below are important items for the council meeting and workshop on Tuesday, December 3rd. The full agenda can be found here. My opinions are in italic. Any errors are my own and not that of the city.
Zoning Ordinance Workshop at 4:00 PM
This will be a Zoning Ordinance discussion with both the Planning & Zoning Advisory Board and City Council attending. It will go over 59 pages of the zoning ordinance discussed at the last P&Z meeting. Possible changes are highlights in the link above.
City Council Meeting at 5:30 PM
Discuss Short-Term Rental Ordinance and updates to parking, permit fees, and definitions [D. Nance]. City council has ‘guidelines’ on how many parking spaces are required for short-term rentals. I feel these restrictions should be no more onerous as those required for their zoning; i.e residential, commercial, etc. STR permit fees are currently $350 for first year permits and $100 for renewals. I prefer this fee be the same each year. This would provide revenue stability for budgeting.
Discussion on the current status of the Holland Renovation Project and consideration for tax concessions [M. Antrim]. City council will discuss offering hotel occupancy tax (HOT) or property tax concessions to Byways Hospitality as development incentives. I believe the developers received these working with Round Rock in the past. I’m looking forward to learning what this would look like.
Approve Resolution 2024-12-01, a resolution adopting the Official Zoning Map of the City of Alpine, Texas [M. Antrim]. Kayse Muratori, of the Rio Grande COG, recently updated the city zoning map. She verified rezones as some hadn’t been updated in a decade. The old zoning map is a PDF. The new one is of better quality. Many thanks to her for doing this work. Before this becomes the approved zoning map it would need to be codified and approved by city council.
